Alerion 41, Featured in Yachting World

While we were down in Annapolis during the Fall Boat Show last October, we were fortunate enough to receive a visit from Toby Hodges from Yachting World Magazine.

After test-sailing Nina on the Chesapeake Bay, Toby wrote us a beautiful article for the March 2014 issue. Here he highlights the 41’s seductive nature, her ease of sail, and her award winning features.

Read on about this cruise-able day-sailer, and learn why we hold such a deep admiration for this gorgeous Alerion 41: Yachting World Alerion 41 feature

Shoal Draft Keel, An Alerion 41 Option

photo 2Alerion Yachts has just completed the construction of the first Alerion 41 with a shoal draft keel.  Lucky for her, she has just settled snugly into her cradle on a truck to begin her journey down to South Beach, Miami.

A shoal draft keel is an ideal option for those who wish to cruise in shallower waterways, navigate canals, or have more destination options.  Alerion Yachts’ in-house naval architect, T.J. Perrotti, developed this keel for the Alerion 41.  T.J.’s experience includes being an accomplished chief designer on several America’s Cup projects, and he specializes in keel and rudder technology.

The standard keel on the Alerion 41 draws 6’6”, and the shoal draft keel draws 5’6”.  The sailing trim displacement increases about 1100 lbs for the shorter keel, but it does not adversely affect the sailing performance.  With modern day engineering, the boat with a shoal draft keel still points beautifully, and sails with ease.

So if you like sailing without limitations, consider your keel depth options when considering where you would like to explore.

Alerion 41 wins People’s Choice Award in Newport!

We had a great four days at the Newport Boat Show earlier this month.  There were tons of beautiful new sailboats and powerboats to inspect and the crowds did not disappoint!  With an Alerion 28, Sport 33 and the all new Alerion 41 on display, there was flurry of activity around the booth.  Besides catching up with Alerion owners both new and seasoned, the highlight of the event was receiving the People’s Choice Award for best new sailboat!  Happily three of our new 41 owners were there to celebrate with us.  If you haven’t seen this latest Alerion be sure to contact us for a tour or meet with us at the Annapolis Sailboat Show.

Success at ‘Round The Island Race!

The conditions could not have been better last weekend for this event sponsored by the Edgartown Yacht Club on Martha’s Vineyard!  The winds were consistently 22 – 28 knots for the buoy races and the actual RTI race on Saturday.  The Alerions were in good company: Swans, Sabres, J122s, J120s, and Little Harbor to name a few.  There were also two Navy 44’s present that were built by the same craftsman that build Alerions.  The IRC division attracted a few TP52s and the impressive “Rambler”, a Reichel Pugh 90′.

As always the Alerions did well!  “Iniki” an Alerion Express 38 won its double-handed division while another 38 took second in the PHRF non-spinnaker division.  Full results here.
